The Hallyu wave is making its steady sweep across Australia after finally reaching our shores. It’s first stop? One of the most popular Australian morning TV programs: Channel 7’s ‘Sunrise’.

Only a week after the K-pop Music Festival in Sydney took place, the November 19th broadcast aired a special segment, which provided viewers an inside look on the world of K-pop, discussing the reasons behind its mass appeal and seemingly endless popularity. Sunrise presenter James Tobin also sat down with TVXQ for an exclusive interview—you can check out the full segment below.

If you’ve watched the video, you may have noticed a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of a bunch of enthusiastically screaming K-pop fans near the set. Since the program is broadcasted live, Melbourne K-pop fans jumped at the opportunity to show that they loved K-pop just as much as their Sydney equivalent. Aus2one spread the word and fans came to the Sunrise set as early as 8AM, donned in their K-pop gear and clutching their K-pop signs. Although the cameras didn’t quite capture the crowd in its entirety—it goes without saying that they had shown their utmost passion for K-pop and its continued presence within Australia. Afterwards, since many fans were already gathered in one place, Aus2one decided to all march into a store as a collective group and purchase the ‘United Cube’ album, in celebration of its November 11th release in Australia.

Aus2one were ready to call it a day—however the forces of K-pop weren’t so sure!

Aus2one were joined by the staff from Hellokpop, and chanced upon popular Chinese girl group ‘iMe’—and we were lucky enough to conduct an impromptu interview with the lovely girls!

Comprised of five members (three are Chinese, one is Thai and one is Korean), the girls shot to popularity after releasing their first single in 2010 entitled, ‘Ai Yi Ya’. Mainland China’s first major girl group were invited to perform at the ‘CP Biggest Eater Competition’ held in Melbourne.

You might be wondering how on earth this is related to K-pop?

Well, iMe won ‘Best Asia New Artist’ at the 2010 MAMA Awards, and Korean member Haley had previously trained under SM Entertainment before eventually debuting with iMe. After watching them perform, Aus2one and Hellokpop went backstage and had a quick chat with the girls.
